This extremely ambitious project comes from the blessed union of a New Zealand wine merchant and a Tuscan winemaker. The best grapes from rows of vines that are over 50 years old (75% Sangiovese, 15% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon) are selected after hand-picking into small boxes for the “Supremus” and after gentle spontaneous fermentation for up to 18 months in, some new , partly used barrels. In addition, the “Supremus” is given additional time to mature in the bottle in the cellars of the house before it goes on sale 5 years after the harvest, when it is ready to drink.
The lush, sweet stone fruit notes on the nose are reflected on the palate, followed by black berries, but also currants and raspberries can be found in the complex overall picture of the aromas. A very well-balanced, mild acidity and mineral notes from the soil protect it from clumsiness and give it the necessary freshness. An exceptional wine, at an unusually reasonable price.
